PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize significant information on a map based on existing map data, by displaying a map for showing a part corresponding to a path from a starting place to a destination, namely a rough map corresponding to the map of a desired area, based on the map data. SOLUTION: First, when an information input part 10 inputs information for indicating a position near a destination, a map display part 14 reads map data 12a being accumulated into a map information accumulation part 12 and displays a map around the destination. Then, a road system read part 16 reads road system data 12b that corresponds to a starting place and the destination being informed by the information input part 10 and is accumulated into the map information accumulation part for providing to a path detection part 18. The path detection part 18 searches for a path for connecting the starting place to the destination on the map according to preset search conditions. Furthermore, a rough map creation part 20 creates a rough map based on the detected path, the accumulated map data 12a, and the road system data 12b, and outputs the information for indicating the rough map to an abbreviated map display part 22 for displaying.
