PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To search corresponding points between the signature area of an input image and a reference image at high speed while efficiently taking up writing variations and to perform fast processes including cutting out the signature area from the input image.;SOLUTION: Once an input image is inputted from an image input part 110, the signature area of the input image is cut out according to the input image contracted by a wide-area searching process part 130 and to corresponding points provided by roughly dividing the reference image into blocks. The signature area of the input image is corrected according to the signature area of the input image slightly contracted by the rough searching process part 140 and to corresponding points provided by rather roughly dividing the reference image into blocks. A precise searching process part 150 subdivides the signature area of the input image and the reference image into blocks to determine accurate corresponding points. Using a collation value which is the product of the rate of coincidence and non-deformation ratio obtained through the process of determining the corresponding points, a determination is made as to whether the signature is true or false.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
