PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backup method that uses a hardware-based automatic data transfer circuit instead of using a software-based communication protocol process with the intervention of a CPU, in transferring backup data to other computers. PSOLUTION: The operation of a circuit which automatically detects a decrease in the rate of ATM data transmission during the normal process of the CPU of one's own computer and reads data in a storage area to create ATM cell data for transmission to an ATM exchange network, and the operation of another circuit which separates the stored data from the ATM cell data received by another computer via the ATM exchange network and automatically stores the separated data into a backup data storage area, are utilized to transfer the backup data without causing an increase in the processing load of each computer.
