PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for communicating with a machine connected to a network. PSOLUTION: The communication with a machine is conducted by an electronic mail or a direct connection. The electronic mail is transmitted to a service center via the Internet or to a resource controller from the service center, and left in a LAN or a WAN for transmission between the machine and the resource controller as well. The electronic mail message including information related to a state, operating situations, or a function of a device to be monitored and controlled is transmitted from a computer connected to the device. The device transmits a state message and operating state information to a resource controller or the service center on the Internet via a firewall. When the device requires urgent services, the message is directly sent to the resource controller. In the case of periodic information, the service center manages all the resources on an intra-net and transmits information of a prescribed type to the resource controller by using the electronic mail.
