Elevation estimation techniques for efficient use of the search for broad beam at the radar

When using the wide area search beam of cosecant squared beam or the like, a method and apparatus for estimating the elevation angle is provided. Range of the target to be detected during the search by the broad beam covering a wide angle search area is required. Based on the range that has been determined, in wide angle search area, by increasing the elevation search, continuous beam is transmitted. With the echo signal of the continuous beam, elevation estimate for the target is obtained.
