PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a failure determining device for a temperature detection means enhancing the frequency of the failure monitor of an intake air temperature detecting means and improving the detection response.;SOLUTION: This failure determining device is provided with an intake-air- temperature sensor 24 detecting intake-air-temperature Ta of air sucked by an engine 1, a first determining means A1 determining whether the total number of hours ΣTt of a first operational state in which intake air temperature depends on outside air temperature exceeds a first predetermined time tα1, a second determining means A2 determining whether a second operational state in which intake air temperature depends on ambient temperature of an engine continuously exceeds a second predetermined time tα2, a calculating means A3 calculating the deviation ΔTa between the minimum temperature TaMIN and the highest temperature TaMAX when the total number of hours ΣTt exceeds the first predetermined time Tα1 and the time Tk exceeds the second predetermined time tα2, and a failure determining means A4 determining that the intake-air-temperature sensor has failed if the deviation is smaller than the predetermined value ΔTaα.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
