PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power line carrier communication relaying method and a power line carrier communication terminal with which traffic to search a relaying apparatus can be suppressed and which can be quickly adapted to the dynamic change of transmission characteristics. ;SOLUTION: In the communication between optional terminals 2a, 2b among a plurality of terminals 2, after the terminal 2a directly transmits a packet to the terminal 2b, when no reply comes from the terminal 2b even after a lapse of a prescribed time, the terminal 2a repeats direct transmission of the packet addressed to the terminal 2b up to the prescribed direct re-transmission number of times, and repeats the transmission of the packet to the relaying apparatus 3 up to the maximum number of re-transmission times when no reply comes furthermore. The relaying apparatus 3 relay-transmits the received packet to the terminal 2b to perform the transmission of the packet from the terminal 2a to the terminal 2b, and when the terminal 2a transmits the packet to the terminal 2b via the relaying apparatus 3, the direct re- transmission number of times is decreased. After the terminal 2a transmits the packet to the terminal 2b not via the relaying apparatus 3, when the terminal 2a receives an acknowledgement from the terminal 2b within a prescribed time, the direct re- transmission times is increased.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
