PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily produce a new dicyanopyrazine derivative, expressed by a specific formula and useful as a synthetic raw material for an optical recording material, a photoelectric conversion material, etc., or as a fluorochrome. ;SOLUTION: This dicyanopyrazine derivative is expressed by formula I [Y and Z are each CH₂X (X is a halogen), CH₂P(R¹)₃X (R¹ is an alkyl, etc.), CH=P(R¹)₃ or CH=CR²R³ (R² and R³ are each H, an alkyl, etc.)], preferably a compound of formula II. Further, a compound of formula II is preferably obtained by reacting a diketone compound (e.g. 1,4-dibromo-2,3-butanedione) of the formula, XCH₂COCOCH₂X with 2,3-diaminomaleonitrile in a solvent, e.g. methanol at a temperature in the range from 0°C to the boiling point of the solvent.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
