PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte membrane for a direct methanol fuel cell with high proton conductivity and improved methanol permeability, and the direct methanol fuel cell using the electrolyte membrane. PSOLUTION: This direct methanol fuel cell generates electric power from the methanol directly supplied to a cell without reforming the methanol into hydrogen. The electrolyte membrane for the direct methanol fuel cell contains sulfonated polyarylene. The direct methanol fuel cell uses the electrolyte membrane. PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
