PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition support system and method which permit creation of new phrases and musical pieces.;SOLUTION: An operator 16 lines up note cards 18 on a table 14. A camera 12 disposed above the table 14 photographs the table and the cards and imparts camera video signals to a computer 24. The computer 24 acquires the two-dimensional coordinate information indicating the positions and arrangement information of the note cards 18 from the camera video signals and forms note events (MIDI data) according thereto. The MIDI data is imparted to an electronic musical instrument 26. The instrument 26 produces the tones of the musical expressions (timbre, interval, loudness, etc.), meeting the MIDI data, i.e., the positions and arrangement of the note cards. A series of the note events are stored as phrases into the computer 24 and are displayed on a screen 34.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
