PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a time for calculation and to find desired directivity by including a step for expressing plural binary variables corresponding to the thinning state of an element by one multivalue variable in the gene expression of a genetic algorithm.;SOLUTION: In order to find the adaptive value of some individual, it is necessary to find the directivity of an array antenna corresponding to thee individual. This method does not binary-display a gene having a value of 0 to 2k-1 once to investigate the thinning state of each element to add the contribution of not-thinned elements but previously calculates contribution directly corresponding to the value of 0 to 2k-1. For example, a complex electric field which is generated at an observing point (x) by an I-numbered element is set to be Ei (x) to find contribution at an observing point (x) by a gene '5' on the right end of an individual (Ci) having genetic information of '10 2 6...5'. In order to obtain it from Ei (x), '5' is binary-displayed to be '0101' to find numbers corresponding to an element (1) and an element (3).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
