PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dial operating mechanism for an electronic equipment with much more enhanced operability which can turn a dial operating member nearly in a horizontal state for a turning input operation and also rock the dial operating member in a prescribed direction so as to attain a rocking input operation. SOLUTION: The dial operating mechanism for an electronic device of this invention is provided with; the dial operating member that can be turned and rocked in a plurality of directions in response to a depressed position; a dial turning detection means for detecting a plurality of turning stop positions or turning angles of the dial operating member; and a dial rocking direction detection means for detecting the rocking direction of the dial operating member as to at least two directions or more among the directions in which the dial operating member can be rocked, and characterized in that the dial rocking direction detection means is placed nearly on the outside of the dial turning detection means.
