PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for buffering NRZ (non return to zero) data patterns for generating a recording pulse in a CD-RW/DVD-RW system.;SOLUTION: The device is provided with a pattern detector detecting a pattern edge and a pattern from NRZ data; a write address generating portion generating a write address for specifying a pattern buffer for storing the pattern by responding to a write enable signal generated by delaying the pattern edge; the pattern buffer containing a plurality of registers and storing the pattern detected by the write address; and a read address generating portion generating the same read address as the write address by responding to a read enable signal delayed compared with the write enable signal and reading the present pattern of the pattern stored in the pattern buffer specified by the read address, two previously written patterns which follow the present pattern, and two subsequently written patterns which follow the present pattern.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
