PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the reflection density accurate and reliable by analyzing a digitized image containing a first color, then generating the reflection density value of the digitized image and correcting the reflection density by a light scattering compensation signal and a light discontinuation compensation signal. ;SOLUTION: Light scattering data to be used to compensate for a light scatter is obtained by slowly moving a CCD matrix sensor 30 crosswise when the light passes scattered as a slow pass in the start mode. If a few number of passes are made in order to obtain light scattering data, the obtained digitized image is analyzed, then the data obtained by the light scatter pass is averaged by counting the total number of white pixels in the entire image, and the percentage of the white pixels is sought to store it in memory. This percentage data is used for compensating for reflection density data measured when analyzing the refection factor of each of the color blocks using each of keys during printing operation. After the operation in the start mode, it is switched to the execution mode and the CCD matrix sensor 30 is transferred across the rolled band on a printing press. In this case, the CCD matrix sensor 30 is synchronized with the speed of the rolled band to obtain the reflection density data.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
