PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cleaning an air conditioner excellent in cleaning effect and excellent in workability, and an air conditioner cleaned by the method. PSOLUTION: The air conditioner is cleaned by coating the interior of an existing air conditioner with an aqueous resin or an aqueous emulsion resin excellent in film forming properties and drying the coating resin. After coating, an anti-bacterial agent, a funguspfoofing agent or a growth inhibiting agent may be applied. The existing air conditioner may be cleaned by adding the anti-bacterial agent, the fungusproofing agent or the growth inhibiting agent to the aqueous resin or aqueous emulsion resin, then coating the interior of the air conditioner with the obtained resin and drying the coating resin.
