Estimation of error in frequency and synchronization in an OFDM system framework to estimate the error in frequency and synchronization of the framework are carried out in a receiver in an OFDM system based on U.M metric that is indicative of the detected pilot power. The metric may be defined based on cross correlation between two received symbols obtained in two periods of OFDM symbols.To estimate the error of frequency is computed a metric value for each of multiple errors of the frequency in question.The error of frequency to the hypothetical metric value with the largest magnitude is provided as the frequency error estimate.For synchronization of the picture is obtained a correlation value for each period of the OFDM symbols by correlation values of the metric obtained for NC (e.g.The most recent periods of OFDM symbols) with NC expected values. The expected values are computed in a manner consistent with the manner in which the metric values are computed.The detection of the peaks is performed on the correlation values obtained for different periods of OFDM symbols to determine the synchronization frame.
