In the present invention, there is disclosed a method of supplying a granular raw material for reduced iron in which when the granular raw material for reduced iron is fed into a hopper (11) and from there supplied onto a hearth (3a) of a movable hearth furnace (3) through a material supplying device (13), the material supplying device (13) is moved vertically to thereby adjust the gap (T) between the lower end of the material supplying device (13) and the hearth (3a), whereby it is possible to adjust with high accuracy the amount of granular raw material for reduced iron supplied onto the hearth (3a) of the movable hearth furnace (3), whereby said raw material supplying device (13) is cooled. There is further disclosed an apparatus for supplying a granular raw material for reduced iron, said apparatus comprising a hopper (11) for receiving the granular raw material for reduced iron, a device (13) for supplying the granular raw material received by the hopper (11) for receiving the granular raw material to a hearth (3a) of a movable hearth furnace (3), and means for adjusting a gap (T) for vertical movement of said material supplying device (13) and to adjust the gap (T) extending between the lower end of the material supplying device (13) and the hearth (3a). The apparatus further comprises cooling means provided in said material supplying device (13) and intended for cooling said material supplying device (13).
