Artificial patination material to substrates preferably made of copper or copper alloys is prepared by stopping reaction between raw material and alkali metal hydroxide with water, dispersing precipitate with powerful mixing and addition of dispersing agent, and using oxidative agent and carbon as agent for catalyzing natural patina. Preparation of artificial patination material to substrates preferably made of copper or copper alloys comprises using copper salt(s) as raw material that is precipitated with alkali metal hydroxide, filtering formed sludge for forming precipitate, stopping reaction between raw material and alkali metal hydroxide with water, dispersing precipitate with powerful mixing and addition of dispersing agent, and using oxidative agent and carbon as agent for catalyzing natural patina. An independent claim is also included for an artificial patination material to substrate preferably made of copper or copper alloys comprising copper salt as raw material, oxidative agent and carbon for catalyzing natural patina, and stable metal compound as color pigment for achieving desired color and/or color tinge.
