A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF COMPENSATED SULPHONATED POLYANILINE AS A WATER SOLUBLE POLYMER USFUL FOR CORROSION INHIBITION

This invention relates to a process for the preparation of compensated sulphonated polyaniline as a water soluble polymer useful for corrosion inhibition. The water soluble polyaniline of the present invention finds various applications as an corrosion protection of iron and mild steel in HC1 medium and saline water. The crystallinity of the water soluble polymer has not been observed by any other group. Novelty resides in the use of this polymer as a corrosion inhibitor for iron and mild steel in HC1 and NaCl. Suitable treatment of the polymer with sulphur based compound and alkali hydroxides makes the polymer water soluble.
