: The present invention relates to a method of producing high yielding male sterile (MS) transgenic plant of commercial importance,obtained by RNA editing by expressing the unedited nad9 gene thereby causing an alteration in the functioning of the porton pumping multi protein complexes of the mitochondrial inner membrane resulting in an impairment of the nad9 subunit alignment,and loss of function of the complex I(NADH- ubiquionone oxido-reductase),resulting in a decrease in the cellular energy levels ,causing total pollen abortion,to obtain sterile transgenic plant having higher floret number as compared to control plants which on crossing with restorer lines results in yield enhancement.
