: The invention pertains to the use of subunits and oligomers of collectins and/or ficolins, such as mannan-binding lectin (MBL) in prophylactic and /or curative treatment of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in an individual, in particular in an individual having a normal to low MBL serum level. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for treating SARS including determining the MBL serum level in an individual and administering MBL to the individual if relevant.
