A process for the recovery of zine from galvaniser's ash (zinc ash) by solvent extraction using d1-2 ethyl hexyl phosphoric acid(d2ehpa)

The zinc ash obtained from the galvanizing industry is leached with sulphuric acid solution, thus bringing zinc and impurities like iron and chloride in to solution before solvent extraction. The resulting zinc sulphate solution is treated with organic solvent phase leaving impurities like chloride and iron in the aqueous phase. The zinc loaded organic is treated with sulphuric acid solution to strip zinc into the aqueous phase for subsequent use in electrowinning of zinc metal by known methods.
