The photosensor based system for measuring and cutting of bloom in continuous casting in steel plants comprises of a sensor stack, a LED based bloom length display unit, a gas cutting trolley position-sensing unit; a control circuit to actuate Gripper mechanism and a method for measuring and cutting of bloom in continuous casting in steel plants comprising the steps of sensing the advancement in the bloom position using the sensor stack, - displaying the bloom position in LED based bloom length display unit, sensing of the trolley position for any dislocation from " zero reference" position and subsequently its cutting of the bloom.
