The present invention relates to efficient IP networking system and methods for 3G wireless multimedia networks. It proposes a Lightweight Multipurpose Signaling Protocol (LMPSP) for wireless multimedia networks. Though in the present invention it is used for 3G wireless multimedia networks, it can also be used for other types of wireless networks. This protocol provides efficient methods for the following purposes: same signaling message for multiple forward and reverse link flows, dynamic price management for wireless networks, mechanisms for aggregation of signaling messages for multiple flows. In addition, it also supports flow classification and QoS management. The present invention further, proposes four types of IP networking systems for 3G wireless multimedia networks. Here 30 wireless network is made more IP oriented. In addition to supporting QoS management and dynamic price management, it allows for easier management of wireless networks as similar IP protocols are run at all the nodes in the wireless networks for these purposes. Networking systems proposed here provide greater decoupling between the WER (I.e. PDSN) and the RN. The present invention also defines an LMPSP-RSVP proxy that allows LMPSP and RSVP to exist together in a network. In addition to managing QoS in wireless networks, it also allows for end-to-end QoS management in a network. Mechanisms used in these networking systems have been also described.
