The machine comprises an axle mounted inside a cylinder, between which are curved bowls supporting steel balls. These bowls are arranged in adjacent compartments. A coil wound around the outside of the cylinder is connected to a collector on the axle and current is taken from the collector via a carbon brush. Permanent magnets on the outside of the rotor are used to rotate the cylinder and generate voltage. The magnets prevent the balls from reaching an equilibrium state where rotation would stop.
