The machine comprises a conveyor (10, 14) for supplying and removing flowers (12) in a lying position, a unit (160a, 160b) for picking up flowers individually and putting them back down on top of the conveyor, a mechanism (22) for adjusting a position of at least part of this unit relative to the conveyor in the flower length direction (20) and a device for measuring a position of a part of the flower. The pick-up unit supports the flower via at least two points on opposite sides of the flower's center of gravity. The unit position adjustment mechanism is designed to correspondingly alter a position of the flower relative to the conveyor in the flower length direction whilst the flower remains supported on the two or more points of the unit, or whilst it is lying on top of the conveyor. The measuring device is linked to the unit position adjustment mechanism so that the degree of displacement is regulated, depending on a measured position of the flower part.
