Shadow capture origin triangulation touch sensor panel to resolve multiple simultaneous touches on a touchscreen

An apparatus for detecting and resolving the location of a single touch or the locations of multiple simultaneous touches on a touch sensitive panel is disclosed. The apparatus includes a plurality of transmitters of light beams, and a plurality of receivers of light beams. The transmitters and receivers are arranged to form a plurality of clusters, where each cluster includes either a plurality of said receivers arranged to be fed by a single transmitter, or a plurality of transmitters arranged to feed a single said receiver, wherein the clusters are arranged such that, in use, the paths of the light beams form a complex matrix across the touch sensitive panel surface.
