Dislcosed is the use of a CO containing organometallic complex in a supramolecule aggregate having the ability to release CO in vivo, for the manufacture of a medicament for treating or preventing a disease selected from the group consisting of an inflammatory disease, a disease with a strong inflammatory component, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, injury, infarction, or a circulatory disease in a mammal. A compound for preventing and/or treating a disease in a mammal is also provided, wherein the compound comprises a CO containing organometallic complex in a supramolecule aggregate, wherein the organometallic complex is linked to an anti-inflammatory agent or a biphosphonate or biphosphonate derivative.
