A method and computer program for billable timekeeping accepting inputs for start time, end time, an identifier, and/or a billable percentage. The inputs may be manually entered or automatically derived from the activity itself, for example, a start time may be automatically recorded when a particular type of file is opened for editing, and an end time recorded when it is closed. The event identifier could be the file name, the author identifier, or a client identifier. The system detects a time overlap between events and initiates conflict resolution, offering various options to correct the overlap.
