A substantially pure and biologically active peptide known as SEQ ID 4 (VAPEEHPTLLTEAPLNPK). This includes a nucleic acid that has a sequence coding for this biologically active peptide and a pharmaceutical formulation produced therefrom. This peptide has the ability to modulate immune activity and growth of cancer, specifically liver cancer and melanomas. This peptide can also have a secretory signal peptide for secretion of the protein from the micro-organism in which it is expressed.
