The invention features a universal fast response low-voltage TOV resistant power varistor with low residual voltage including metal terminals designed in such a way that their external edge is as round as possible and that the aforementioned edge (106) by its shape follows the edge of the varistor element. This ensures that the pulse current is dispersed from the centre towards the circumference and that the load of the specified varistor ceramic panel is uniform. The construction of the thermaldisconnection of the varistor according to this invention features at least four soldering surfaces and four contact areas, while the material of the ceramic panels of the varistor contains between 80 and 350 ppm Al oxyde dust, and is covered by an insulating colour which does not disintegrate at temperatures above 250 degrees Celsius. The thickness of the nickel-coated and zinc-coated surfaces of the varistor ceramic panel is higher than 10 microns and can be implemented in a single-pole or multi-pole version as well as/or single-layer or multiple-layer version, for example applied in the back to back version and featuring a central supply of pulse current.
