The invention describes a method for optimizing the cell reselection procedure according to the UMTS standard of a mobile radio terminal, so that an individual adaptation based on the mobile terminal speed can be carried out. The invention is characterized in that an optimization of the cell reselection performance is realized by speed-dependent formation of the cell reselection parameters, the application of a method of hierarchical cell structures being excluded.
