The production of terbinaphin hydrochlorate (TH) has reaction of N-methyl-1-naphthalene methylamine with a chlorinated derivative in the presence of e.g. sodium carbonate and an inert solvent isopropanol. With isopropanol reflux forming the hydrochlorate of the mixture of the isomers Z/E crystallization separates the TH as the isomer E. The simplified process does not isolate the intermediate compounds, which reduces its cost.
