The invention consists of a method that allows a customized predictive digital control system to be obtained for a specific process control problem in the time domain, with reduced computational requirements. The process begins with an analysis of the control problem, aimed at obtaining the necessary information to define a series of design parameters in a quasi-optimal predictive control algorithm. Once these adjustments have been made, formulas are provided to calculate the computational characteristics (such as number of operations per second and memory required) that the implementation in a digital system requires. With these requirements we proceed to a description of the elements that will implement the algorithm and its interconnections, together with the specifications of each of said elements. A control system adapted to the problem in question is thus obtained.
