The use of sildenafil in the manufacture of a medication to treat or prevent selected pulmonary hypertension between primary pulmonary hypertension and secondary pulmonary hypertension, in which secondary pulmonary hypertension is secondary to secondary congestive insufficiency, chronic hypoxic pulmonary disorder, inflammatory vascular disease or of collagen, congenital heart disease associated with left or right shunt, and pulmonary thromboembolism, and in which pulmonary vascular resistance is reduced to a greater degree than systemic vascular resistance.
