Process for producing castings from a mass of molten metal, in particular a mass of light metal melt, including the following steps: - manufacturing a part casting mold, from a material mold obtained by mixing a base material inert mold to the mass of molten metal, pourable, having a fraction of more than 50% synthetic mullite and a remaining fraction consisting of quartz sand, which comprises particles whose shape is substantially spherical, and an organic agglomeration, the duration of the thermal expansion of the base material of the mold and the binder being found adapted to each other so that the thermal expansion coefficient of the metal mass melt is higher than the coefficient of thermal expansion of the casting mold part manufactured from the mold material; - assembling a casting mold by using the casting part moldede; - casting of the mass of molten metal in the casting mold for making a casting; - cooling of the casting for a period of solidification and cooling during which the casting mold part disintegrates spontaneously in pieces; - removal of pieces of mold casting, or out of the casting; - preparation of the pieces of material mold for making a base material castable mold.
