A method and apparatus for transmitting data at a high data rate in a plurality of low speed data channels is described. The set of lower speed channels is rotated in phase before being added and transmitted. The amount of phase rotation is dependent on the number of channels used to form the higher speed channel. In an embodiment where two lower speed channels (CHANNEL A, CHANNEL B) (90, 92) are used, the phase and quadrature components (94, 96) of the two channels are multiplied complexes before the top conversion with phase sinusoids and phase quadrature (COS ({oe} {sub, c} t), SIN ({oe} {sub, c} t)). For a high speed channel formed of more than two lower speed channels (90, 92), the phase and quadrature components of each channel undergo a higher conversion with a set of sinusoids (COS ({oe} { sub, c} t + i / N.180), SIN ({oe} {sub, t} t + i / N.180;)) that are phase shifted from each other.
