A sensor detects the speed of the vehicle while a measurer measures the distance between the vehicle and any object in its path. An electronic module receives the outputs of the sensor and measurer, refers to a table relating optimal distances and corresponding speed values, and determines the actual safe distance from the table. The degree of danger of the safe distance is determined by a rank corresponding to the determined safe distance. Devices connected to the electronic module execute different actions according to the rank.
