Procedure for the transmission of information symbols with a symbol rate (R) through a channel with a channel bandwidth (B), in which - the information symbols are subjected to a widening on the side of the transmitter of frequency and to a temporary widening and, on the receiver side, to a corresponding narrowing, - adapting the corresponding widening and, therefore, the gain of the system, adaptively to the required transmission quality and channel properties.
