Method for non-invasive diagnosis of transplantations and transfusions characterized by a) extraction of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) noncellular circulating a sample of non-cellular body fluids from the receiver transplantation or transfusion; b) detecting, analyzing and quantifying mtDNA in the sample; c) Comparing mtDNA from the probe with mtDNA obtained from donor and recipient before transplantation or transfusion; d) use mtDNA polymorphisms in hypervariable regions to discriminate between donor tissue damage and recipient tissue damage in a transplant setting or to determine survival of cellular blood components in a transfusion regions.
