Using cellulose derivatives with capacity for soil release, obtainable by alkylation and hydroxyalkylation of cellulose in which are contained, on average, from 0, 5 to 2, alkyl 5 groups and from 0, 02 to 0, 5 hydroxyalkyl group per anhydroglycose monomer unit, to enhance the cleaning performance of detergents containing bleaching agents for the washing of textiles which consist especially cotton or cotton-containing.
