A voltage or current signal of an electrical line is sampled. A transformed wavelet packet is applied to obtain an effective value of the spectral components contained in the frequency bands of the harmonics of a fundamental frequency of the mains. The effective value is compared with the effective values of defined harmonic groups in the CEI 61000-4-7 standard.
