Stress-related proteins by transcription factors and methods of use in plants.

A transgenic plant transformed by a nucleic acid encoding a protein stress-related transcription factors (TFSRP) wherein the TFSRP is a binding factor-1 CRT / DRE (CBF-1) as defined in SEQ ID NO: 17, and homologues thereof having at least 50% -60% homology with the protein as defined in SEQ ID NO: 17 and wherein expression of the nucleic acid sequence in the plant results in increased tolerance to drought stress compared to a wild type variety of the plant.
