BILEAFLET MECHANICAL HEART VALVE WITH PIVOTING MECHANISM PREVENTING STAGNATION

A bileaflet mechanical cardiovascular valve comprisingan annular valve body having a pair of occluder leafletspivotally mounted therewithin. The occluder leaflets arepivotally mounted within the valve body by the snap-fittingof ear member which extend from the top and bottom ends ofthe occluder leaflets into corresponding cropped pivotslots formed within the annular valve body. Each croppedpivot slot comprises a spheroidal depression or recesshaving a first flat cropped edge and a second flat croppededge. The ear members of the occluder leaflets are sizedand configured relative to the cropped pivot slots tofacilitate opening and closing of the occluder leafletswith minimal likelihood of hemolysis or thromboticcomplications. Additionally disclosed is a specializedmachine tool and method for machining the cropped pivotslots in the annular valve body.
