METHOD FOR UPGRADING IRON ORE UTILIZING MULTIPLE MAGNETIC SEPARATORS

The present invention relates to upgradingiron ore to decrease the amount of nonferrousmaterials therein, and to thereby increase the ironcontent thereof. More particularly, the inventionrelates to a process utilizing magnetic fields (20,50, 140) to separate a feed stream into magneticfractions (30, 60, 150) and nonmagnetic fractions(40, 70, 160). Inventive processes maybe advantageously used to separate a significant amount ofnonmagnetic material such as silica or pyrolusite,from valuable iron oxide in an iron ore or ironore concentrate. The invention therefore findsadvantageous use to provide an improved sourceof iron oxides for high purity uses such as, forexample, direct reduction processes and heavymedia coal beneficiation processes.
