Systems and/or methods for establishing and maintaining authenticity of aplurality ofrecords and/or documentary materials to be persisted in an electronic archivessystem areprovided. Each record and/or documentary material may be safeguardedthroughout its entirelifecycle by monitoring and recording both intended changes to each saidrecord and/ordocumentary material and its corresponding status, as well as unintendedchanges to eachsaid record and/or documentary material. Context and structure associated witheach saidrecord and/or documentary material may be extracted and preserved.Substantiallyuninterrupted proof-of-custody including at least a source may be establishedand preservedfor each said record and/or documentary material throughout its entirelifecycle. Essentialcharacteristics of each said record and/or documentary material may becaptured andpreserved throughout its lifecycle in dependence on one or more changeabledefinitions ofessential characteristic. The plurality of record and/or documentary materialand allpreserved information may be stored. The archives system may be scalableessentiallywithout limitation. The authenticity of the plurality of record and/ordocumentary materialmay be comprehensively storable and maintainable over an indefinite period oftime in asubstantially obsolescence-proof manner despite changeability of the recordsand/ordocumentary materials, record and/or documentary material custody, and/oressentialcharacteristic definitions.
