The invention relates to a method for controlling shifting operations in motor vehicles with a dual-clutch transmission. The gears of two partial transmissions providing different gears are sequentially changed depending on predetermined shift parameters by means of a transmission control device. In case of a vehicle or braking deceleration which requires a sequential multiple shift-down which cannot be carried out in the given interval, the transmission control device switches from the sequential control mode to a non-sequential control mode. For this purpose, both clutches are brought into a preparative position preparing the engagement of the clutch. When the gas pedal is actuated after the braking operation, a predetermined starting gear is engaged, by way of a single shifting operation, as the target gear in the one of the two partial transmissions which provides the target gear.
