MICROSURGICAL CUTTING INSTRUMENT FOR OPHTHALMOLOGICAL TREATMENTS

A microsurgical cutting instrument for ophthalmological treatments comprises an instrument base unit (14) which is to be placed on the eye and can be fixed relative to the latter, a cutter head (10) which is held or can be mounted on the instrument base unit so as to be movable relative to the latter in an advance direction (12), a cutting-blade unit (16) which can be received in a seat of the cutter head and is movable relative to the latter in a lateral direction (18) transverse to the advance direction, and drive means (32, 34, 40) for driving the cutter head in the advance direction and for the oscillating drive of the cutting-blade unit in the lateral direction. According to the invention, the drive means and/or the coupling thereof to the cutting-blade unit are designed in such a way that the cutting-blade unit has an at least approximately uniform speed over a substantial part, preferably over the greater part, of its lateral oscillation stroke. A particular aim is to achieve an approximately trapezoid profile of the speed of the cutting-blade unit, with steep ascending and descending flanks at the turning points of the stroke.
