The invention concerns a method for regulating volume consumption of traffic of computer entities (Ej) having access to shared resources (Ri) which consists in establishing (A) a time frame ({tn}) as a series of time intervals separated by evaluation dates, based on said time frame performing a count down (B) for the entity (Ej), upon transmission of a request (Reqji) addressed to the resource (Ri), of the traffic volume, determining (C) at the current evaluation date (tn) the counted value Cj(tn) of the traffic volume, comparing (D) a value based on the deducted value to a plurality of threshold values (Sx), establishing a classification of the entity in consumed traffic volume, monitoring (E) instantaneous access to the resource (Ri) for the current time interval, the conditions of access to the resource (Ri) for the entity (Ej) being defined on the basis of the classification. The invention is useful for regulating and monitoring ADSL type high-volume network.
