A telephone enquiry service (ENQ) sends numbers to a terminal (TER) connected to it via a network with a first voice channel (BCHAN) and a second data channel (DCHAN). Enquiries describing required subscribers are passed from the terminal to the telephone enquiry service on the voice channel, recognized in a numeric digital array via the data channel to the terminal, converted to subscriber numbers and entered in a storage device (MEM) for calling subscribers back direct. Independent claims are included for a telephone enquiry service and terminal for telecommunication network.
